32 Car Accidents on Milwaukee County Freeway Monday

In about a 12-hour time span, 32 cars crashed along the interstate. That's more than five times the normal daily average of freeway accidents.

Between 5 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, there were 32 car accidents along the Milwaukee County freeway system. That's more than five times the normal daily average for freeway accidents according to a press release from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Monday.

In the North Shore, there were two major accidents including:

  • A pickup truck hit the sidewall in the southbound lane of I-43 under the Good Hope Road overpass around 3 p.m.
  • Another car accident occurred in the early morning hours in the northbound lanes of I-43 near Capitol Drive.

Out of the 32 accidents Monday, 17 were property damage only, 10 involved injuries and five did not involve any damage according to the release. Usually there are only an average of three to six accidents per day.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office suggests allowing greater stopping distances and driving at reduced speed in reduced visibility situations like Monday's thick fog.

Thanks, Jay - yes, that was my intent, northbound I-43 at Capitol Drive. Apologies for the typo.
